5 Amazing Shows to Check Out on Amazon Prime Video

With so many options for entertainment right at our fingertips, choosing just one is basically an impossible choice.

Since 2016, I've been subscribed to various online streaming services like Netflix, HBO and Hulu (used a VPN for this) and each subscription has brought something unique and exclusive to the table. I mean, how can they not? The competition is growing and if they don't invest in one-of-a-kind content, they'll be left in the dirt.

Amazon Prime Video, if you've never heard of it yet, is similar to Netflix. They have a variety of movies, shows, and exclusive content. I've been subscribed since 2017 and since then, there have been a number of titles I've grown to love. While not everything deserves 5 stars (as with any subscription service), they have a pretty good collection of shows that make the Php155 monthly fee worth it.

1. Invincible (2021)

If you're a fan of animated series, this one is something you have to get into. The art style is reminiscent of the old Spiderman animated series (I forget which one) and there's a Ben 10 influence I can see from some of the characters.

Point is, it doesn't feel like a stranger. It's a new show yet you don't feel like you're diving into something incredibly foreign.

I wasn't too excited when it came out but after my brother told me there'd be graphic gore, I decided to give it a try. I'm pretty late to the review party but it took me two weeks to actually sit down and give the first episode a go - and it didn't disappoint!

If you're looking for something action-packed, quite violent (that ending in the first episode... sheesh), animated, and reminiscent of those morning cartoon shows you ate cereals to, you'll find Invincible a treat.

2. Lore (2017)

THIS WAS WHAT PROMPTED MY SUBSCRIPTION TO AMAZON PRIME! I've been a long-time fan of Aaron Mahnke's Lore (I even wrote a little something about the show here!) and when I heard Amazon was picking it up for a video series, I all just about died.

Lore started as a podcast, but because of how amazing it is (entertaining and historical at the same time), it was about time they got picked up to become a full show!

The show format, visuals, vibe - everything makes this show PERFECT for those who love history but love the mystery around them as well. It's a well-crafted show adapted for TV and if there's any show you need to watch, it's this one. Hands down.

3. Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (2019)

If you're wondering why this dude looks familiar, it's because he once played Jim Halpert in the hit TV series "The Office"! I've always known his comedic side but I was a little skeptical at first if he could actually pull off a serious role like this one.

Well, when it came out last 2019, I gave it a chance and my dad, brother and I got hooked. Season 1 was a great way to introduce him into the role, and season 2 was just as awesome!

Action-packed, endearing, funny at times, but very serious - these are what make this show stand out for me. I love how to director made everyone as human as possible, and didn't turn them all into unrealistic, never hurt heroes. Realism is great here.

Go watch it while there's still only 2 seasons! Eagerly waiting for the next one.

4. Deep Dark (2015)

If you're more into weird, somewhat creepy shows, this is a nice piece to spend time with.

It's actually funny how I found this show. I was browsing through titles one weekend, bored out of my mind, when I saw a really weird but appealing artwork. It didn't give much about what the story was, and even reading the synopsis didn't help explain the thumbnail. Basically, I went into this blind.

I was speechless when it ended. It's quite difficult to describe what it was, like a feeling of "it's shallow but also kind of deep". I can't explain it. You just have to watch it for yourself to appreciate the art.

5. The Office (2005-2013)

It would be a SIN to not include this show. This is one of the best satire comedies I've ever watched and the fact that each character played their role perfectly is just chef's kiss.

If you've never heard of the show or watched it, it's about the lives of the employees of a paper company called Dunder Mifflin. Their ups, downs, heartbreaks, celebrations, struggles - everything. It flows so naturally that I have to applaud the casting director for bringing these talented humans together.

While office life seems mundane, this isn't your ordinary office setting. Watch these "common" working class people as they journey through their life on camera. I promise it gets even better the deeper you get into the catalogue.

Totally a must-watch.

There you have it - five shows that are currently available on Amazon Prime Video that will definitely entertain you. If you aren't sure about committing to a subscription, they have a one-month free trial available for new members!
