What It Means To Say “I Love You”

© The Indy Miss 2016

What makes love different from "like"? What is the distinction? Why is there a need to correct someone if they "like" or "love" something? It's because "love" isn't just liking an object or person. It's acceptance. Of everything, whether good or bad.

Click to Tweet: Love... is about realizing that someone isn't perfect - and you're totally okay with that. #theindymiss

Love isn't just about the good times. It's about realizing that something, someone isn't perfect - and you're totally okay with that. On paper, it seems like the easiest and most logical thing to be able to do, but as we're human with flaws of our own, ego, pride, and self-centeredness get in the way and makes everything complicated.

Love isn't all just about that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you experience your first kiss, your first trip together, your first year. Sometimes, love emerges when the world is dim, and you feel you've got no one who cares. Love is the assurance of knowing that in spite of whatever situation you're in, someone will be there to support you as best they can.

Click to Tweet: One thing is sure, and it's that if there's love, there's hope. #theindymiss

It's no guarantee that you'll always be in the clouds. There will be times that you'll be under them, and they will seem gloomy and dark. There will be rain and thunderstorms, sometimes for weeks on end. One thing is sure, and it's that if there's love, there's hope.

Work hard, and remain faithful. Faithful to your word, your actions, your belief, and your emotions. Don't blatantly try to hurt the other just because they might have forgotten an important day or simply missed to react to something you did or said in the way you expected them to. Humans fall, so forgive. Be patient. Love them.

Sometimes, love is painful, because it's showing you the truth. It's teaching you a lesson you'll need for the future. Let love correct you, and change you for the better. For what is water to a plant that refuses to accept its nutrients?

When I say "I love you" it means I accept every part of you. Things may not always be perfect for us, and there are situations that will spark doubt about our feelings for each other. Sometimes, you forget. Sometimes, I do too. But don't let these human flaws get in the way of something eternal and beautiful. Love doesn't stop the moment death catches hold of you. It goes beyond, above, and through.

Click to Tweet: True love begins when you see the ugliest side of a person and yet you choose to embrace even that. #theindymiss

My heart is bursting at the thought of a future we can have together, but we have to wait. Will you be patient to wait for me, or will you turn away to the next person ready? You've asked me twice to share forever, and twice I've had to turn you down for now. Will you tire of waiting for me?

I trust in love, and I trust you.

Please wait for me.

  1. Oh gee, this is something that I can't explain to my partner every time I am about to say I love you to him. See, I am not good at expressing my emotions through verbal words. And I know that in a same-sex relationship is not all about being up in the clouds and seeing the beautiful sun, but it is a lot harder than in a straight relationship. I could totally feel every word, and I could relate to every sentence that you brought up. It's like something there, but at the same time, subtle.

    1. :) Thank you for sharing your story! Not many people can stand up for love, and you're on the right track! I can't actually say these things out loud either, as much as I want to. I find it hard to express myself verbally, though in writing, that's a different story altogether. :) Whatever you and your partner are going through, cherish it. :) Love is indeed a beautiful thing.

  2. The essence of saying 'I Love You' is being able to still say it and feel it even if the situation you're in tells you that you don't feel like it. It definitely is easier said than done. It takes a lot of hard work because it isn't always happy stories & cloud 9. Love is about standing by that person even at the lowest points of your relationship.

    1. Truth right there! It's easier on paper than actually acting it out. Love, as they say, IS a journey for life. :)

  3. When I saw I love you, it means I accept every part of you. I love how you say that. That is so true. To have unconditional love. To be accepted, the good and the bad. I hope people say I love you nowadays with more meaning.

    1. Yes, I do hope that too. It's so easy to just say "I love" something or someone, but you can only prove the strength of your words when everything seems undesirable. :) Thank you.

  4. Love is the hardest to define, at least for me. We human beings have each of our own interpretation of it. And from what I observed, love either makes us or breaks us. Love is the happiness we're always searching for, and when we found it.. it would always be worth it. <3 And true, I agree.. love isn't always about the good times, love is accepting flaws and that love sometimes hurt.

  6. Falling in love is easy but proving it requires a lifetime. It is essential to sustain the love and keep the fire between two people burning. I believe each of us knows and learns much about this emotion. You are right, love is about accepting everything including imperfections and weaknesses of the one you love. Let your love change him without imposing and allows love to change you without him asking....Nice post!

    1. I agree! I don't try to impose anything on him as I want him to make decisions for himself. :) Thanks.

  7. I do believe the same, that love is not only "the feeling" but the entire journey that you start with another person. It's easy to say "I love you" and not mean it, there are so many who just play with the words because they think this is what the other one wants to hear. But love doesn't have to be said in order to be seen and felt.

  8. Love is not just a feeling it's a commitment to your partner no matter what, for women some would love to hear their word I love you often, but for men it is one of their biggest points when the say, I love you, for men it in accumulative but for women, it's everyday reset, there's really a huge different but we'll need to meet up in the middle, to make the relationship works, give and take

  10. Awwwe! Every point makes sense. Committing to a relationship is not like a sea of clouds at all times. It's how you work together while your under it and be the best person there is for each other. I like reads like this. It gives me a constant reminder about this aspect in life.
