Okay, so I've waited a long while to write a post about this, but now that there's only 3 months left of waiting (based on its expected date of arrival), I can't resist. I need to talk about the Batband and get everyone on board.
The BATBAND was a project on Kickstarterand was funded in full within just five (5) days (talk about amazing). While I don't remember the exact date I backed the project, I took a screenshot of it as inspiration and source of excitement until I got it.
On Kickstarter, the basic package was priced at $140, including shipping. However, it didn't ship to the Philippines, so I instead wrote down my cousin's address living in London so that when she came here for vacation, she could bring it in, tax-free. For a "music device", this is quite on the pricey side, right? So what does it have that makes it, well, special?
Here's a short video to get you better acquainted.
Admittedly, I had doubts as to whether the price would be worth the wait and the product's quality, but considering this would be an incredible feat if they pulled it off, I was kind of sold. Besides, funding this would make me one of the few people in the country to own something revolutionary (granting other Pinoys have pledged as well).
Beyond the issue of pride however lies the fact that this device would solve (and create good) problems. One problem would be its attraction to snatchers. This literally just wraps around your head without a string or chord to put it in place. A workmate suggested I create a custom chord for it so it can rest on my neck and stay there. No biggie.
Fortunately, it solves more problems (ie. makes life more tolerable) than it creates. For one thing, I could get rid of the chords, the audio jack, the 'you don't hear anything when you have your headphones on says mom' issue, and it lets you answer your calls hands-free. Sure, sure, there are devices that do almost all of the same things, but the BATBAND does not rest on your ear. Less ear infections and hearing problems if you ask me.
The Kickstarter already ended months ago, but pre-order is still ongoing at their site. It costs much more though ($199 excluding the shipping), but the upside is that it ships to the Philippines.
So I ordered another one. This time, it cost me between $230 to $248 USD with the shipping. At least it ships directly to the Philippines, so that's a plus.
As soon as I get the product and conduct 'extensive' testing, I'll write a post about the experience. Hopefully, I get it before July (the supposed ETA). Super excited!
Whoa! $199 That is pretty expensive. But I must admit, it looks pretty awesome too. You said you already funded it before, why order 2 more? I assume it can connect to our smart phone via bluetooth.
As a techy, I also love these kind of gadgets. I have a Sony Bluetooth SB-5 . It's like the Batband but it has earphones . Having earphones is actually useful to block out the noise and just listen to the music or mp3's I'm listening so that's the only disadvantage I see from Batband. Unless of course, they can make an option on having earphones connected to the unit.
Update us when the units you ordered arrives. Looking forward to your review
Hi Dominic! It's quite pricey, I know, but I think it's worth it (for now) since this will be the first bone-conductor type headphones I'll be getting. I funded one, then bought another, so I'm getting two pieces, one for me and one for my brother. Yes, it connects via bluetooth.
As for the earphone issue, that was exactly the reason why I wanted Batband. I want to listen to my music without the hassle of chords and on-ear pads that would isolate me from the world. At least I'll get to hear other people and listen at the same time. Hahaha.
Seems like a real special music device. I fear though that snatchers might find that too interesting. It looks cool though when wore. Would wait then for your review of the product. I find July too long. Ihihi
It does seem special, ahah! I said that in my post too, about it being more prone to snatchers, but I also mentioned an idea a coworker of mine had about creating a custom cord I can attach to it to prevent that. Not sure how that'll go but crossing my fingers it won't be a waste of my money. I'll keep you posted! Indeed, July is too far away.
I am an avid user of Beats. But watching the video you attached make my heart pump fast and want to have an impulse buying. Too bad, I am afraid to do a shipping transaction outside my homeland. But I really do love their newly invented/release gadget.
This looks cool, but I'm still skeptical about this until this has been put out in the market. They didn't do a sound and mic test. Also, I'm worried about the security of this thing. It looks prone to being stolen especially here in our country where there are snatchers. If this is for private use only in one's home, music lovers will surely love this.
I had my doubts, but considering this would be a first, I took the leap and pre-ordered it. I mentioned in my post about it being more prone to snatchers here in the Philippines, but I also mentioned a little fix I intend to do to prevent it. Not sure it'll work, but I'll have to be careful when I'll be wearing it in public. This sort of gadget does attract a lot of unwanted attention. :)
Uggh...the 230 dollar price range is too costly for me. I'm not really that of a music lover. BUT the design looks pretty cool, smart and scary. Why scary? It looks like a mind controlling device marketed as a music lovers item. Kidding! I watch too many futuristic post apocalyptic movies.. XD
Hi Zion! Haha, good thing this isn't only for music lovers, but people who use their phones often as well, haha. I had the same thoughts when I first saw this! It DOES look like like a mind-control band! Hahahaha. As long as the brainwashing intends to make the world better, I wouldn't mind haha.
Hi sir! Yes, I mentioned in my post that I saw it as being prone to snatchers in Pinas, but I'm thinking of creating a fix for that issue. As soon as it arrives and I get to use it, I'll post a review. If this is indeed does what it was marketed to be able to do, then my money was spent well. If not, then yes, I'll be happy to say I helped fund a startup's project, haha.
Whoa! This is so cool. All be it, pricey. But cool! Haha. I used to spend a lot on ear/headphones but now I've got one that's a keeper. But I'll be looking forward to reviews of this one knowing that it's an over-all different experience than that of the usual plugged earsets. Caffeine Rush
Hihi, it is! My wallet's crying hahaha. I also have one I really like right now from Audio Technica, but since this is a bone-conductor type band, I thought I'd give it a go. :) I'll keep you posted!
Hmmm I wouldn't be too sure that it is worth it, but I will wait for your review and see what it's like! I'm not really a techy though, so it would have to be something very special to catch my attention!
I have to get used to the design. Walking around with a batband on your head might not be the best thing with my hair loose. However the idea is great, that you can stay connected to the environment :) www.sofarsosabine.com
First time that I heard of this or I am not really that techie? And I think I prefer using my earphones that this because it may attract you as the others say here, snatchers. But would really love to read more about this so I am not outdated.
This is amazing!I wish this will be available locally and comes in a Juan range price. I can't wait for your review very soon. I'm sure your much excited to have this in your hand.
That is amazing! The fact that it doesn't go in or on your ear is unbelievable and ofcourse no cords are great. Seems like it would be worth the price when you consider what people are paying for beatz.
Our facebook group “selfless” is spending this month spreading awareness on prostate cancer & research with a custom t-shirt design. Purchase proceeds will go to cancer.org, as listed on the shirt and shirt design.

ReplyDeleteHaha, hi Eunis! Why not take the leap and buy (after thinking about it of course)? What's keeping you from purchasing online outside the country? :)
