Lip • Pinas Makeup Review: Local is Good!

Makeup is such a fun way to express yourself, and today, we're doing a little review on some items from a local brand called Lip • Pinas!

The Blush

The shade I got was called Unang Sinag (which I think can be translated to "first ray of light") and it has a lovely, buildable formula to keep you from over-blushing your cheeks. It's fragrance-free (as far as I could tell) and the shade really complements my skin tone!

Another thing I really like about it is that the applicator puff is already attached to the lid, so it's perfect for carrying around with you for touch-ups, and helps you avoid getting your hands dirty or accidentally touching the puff and contaminating it.

One thing I do think will make this better is if the lid handle was a tad deeper for better grip. I mean, it's pretty good as it is right now, but there's always room for improvement!

The Highlighter

Aptly called kislap (translates to "shine"), I opted for a warm shade called Marcela. If you know me personally, you'd know that I rarely ever put on highlighter and if I do, I prefer powders - not that I have anything against liquid formulas.

Their shade names were taken from awesome women in Philippine history!

I'm not into really heavy makeup, so my foundation is a medium-coverage powder from L'Oreal. Obviously, applying a liquid highlighter might remove some of the powder foundation and I do not like having to "fix" anything I could've avoided, haha!

What I've noticed from their formulas so far is while there's pigment, they're buildable and natural-looking. I found myself feeling comfortable applying this over my powder foundation which is huge, haha. The shades are gorgeous too, and truly made for Filipinas.

There is a fruity smell to it, but it's not overpowering. It's quite nice and reminiscent of a candy I used to eat after swim class in Sydney. :)

The Liquid Lippies

Finally, we have the liquid matte lipsticks, and they're catered to Pinays indeed! I love their shade range (an ample sized listing for a local brand) and I was happy to have been able to try two, Haliya and Sirenha. 

Good mattes don't dry your lips, and I'm quite pleased that Lip • Pinas' formula isn't drying too much. Some dryness is expected, but unlike other brands I've tried (that were too dry I had to put on a lip scrub after), these ones are light and not tacky at all.

One thing I'm not too fond of is the fragrance. Its scent is a mix of florals and candy (with something else I couldn't put my finger on), but again, it's not a deal breaker for me. Personal preference. If you don't mind a scent in your lippies, then by all means, go for it!

Regardless of the fragrance, I will still use the ones I have and might even buy the other shades. :)

Final Thoughts

Overall, Lip • Pinas delivered. I love that they're a local brand that's cruelty-free and paraben-free, and they have Filipina skin in mind. Too often I see local brands cater to lighter skin tones and it's delightful that this brand chose to cater to a Filipina's natural beauty.

Would I buy any of their products? Of course! I already have some items in mind, so a part two of this review might be coming? (Stay tuned, lol.)

Their prices are very reasonable and it's definitely not going to break your pocket. Their highlighters sell for P199 each, their blush powders are P179 a piece, and the matte liquid lips are each sold for P199 only! Diba?! Isn't that such a steal?
